Random Project

Well, here’s the first episode of an anime-short series, which I’m temporarily abbreviating to Offline… I don’t know why I decided to do four QC passes for this simple little piece. And yeah, I hope I didn’t overlook something after all, though… Making the supposedly “right choices” on word-choice has always been a very difficult decision for me.

Also, since I’m kind of doing this as a little side project, I don’t know if I’m going to dedicate much time to bothering with continuing this little series but, I hope that some folks get a bit of a glimpse of what this is like.

ps. I’m inclined to finish posting the credits properly since I only did the title page credits… Romanizing all those Japanese names has not been a fun endeavor, I must say, though. ;]

psss. I’m still debating on finishing the Hakkenden Ep 02. I’ve had it sitting and basically ready for the last day but, I’m still making little revisions here and there to ensure accuracy, clarity, and fluidity. In other words, I’m a slow-ass editor… I’ll release it either tomorrow or with Ep03… or never…?

TRANSLATION NOTES:
Are you wondering why some things “said” were omitted? Those were onomatopoeia, sound effects (SFX)… I didn’t know if you folks in the audience needed an explanation on subtitles for some of them so I ended up just deleting them after some consideration.

First, jii ジー　、sfx for a staring expression. A person is glaring, looking “purposefully” at another.

Second, kakkun–to カックンと、I already noted this one as an expression of being “crestfallen” but can just be another expression of exasperation and disappointment.

Third, iyaiya　イヤイヤ、this actually is what is being uttered by the main boss (supervisor dude, who’s referred to as Buchou 部長 (Boss/Director)), and this is to express how he’s grudgingly and more or less reluctantly moseying about.

Fourth, ukki　ウッキ、that random last scene is what this noise is… and well, it’s actually the word for melancholy so, I’d say it’s an indicator of feeling gloomy… Another expression of being crestfallen, I’d say.

First project!

EPISODE TRANSLATION NOTES: I despise in-episode translation notes so… I’ll be posting little notes here.

First of all, there is either some strange English or German language used in the opening theme song. I can’t really tell but, I’m pretty keen on giving up on the lyrics until the official ones are released… I did apply some translations this time around on the first line of whatever-language for the opening but, it’s probably way, way off… I omitted two other lines because I didn’t want to butcher the words yet again. If someone else can sound out what’s being sung, I’ll gladly take that for re-translation for the next time. Also, the brief ED part was relatively tricky for me to decipher too, so, I’ll apply that when I can on the second time I take this project on.

Second, while I do not have the manga tankoubon to reference at this time, I feel as though my translations flow better with manga dialogue schemes so, if that bothers any one of you much, I’ll try to revise that next time. In other words, I took a few liberties to add more context in some lines so that message conveyed were clearer (at least in my mind) for comprehension and reading.

Third, Nushi-sama in the beginning is an address for the spirit master of the lake.

Fourth, when Shino addresses the “kuro-marimo”/ 黒マリモ, I believed that the best pet-name for it was “black furball” although the word “marimo” is actually supposed to something like a moss ball.

Fifth, I’m pretty sure the Four Families reference does actually refer to certain “gods” if not “beasts” as in 四獣, and well, based on the picture and what I currently know so far on this story, I don’t think the allusion is extremely clear at this point. (This is open for further critique/discussion, if you happen to know after all.)

Lastly, I know the encoding of the video is terrible. I don’t know how to encode the matroska since I used to only do avi’s; I was contemplating of providing an avi-container file but, everyone complains about how obsolete that is along with the whole hard-subbing scheme so… I decided to try my luck with this encode. If someone wants to give me some protips feel free to?

Extra Nonsense: Well, whether I actually get around to doing this at a regular (weekly) basis will be a question. Moreover, I’m aware that another team or perhaps even more may be covering this series so, I may jump ship soon since I rather not spend time to do stuff others are already doing anyway.  Then again, I may just keep at this for as long as I can. Additionally, since this is a “licensed” show, I’ll have to see if this will be worth the effort to cover… I may try doing just a few sample trials of a variety of shows instead.

Also, I actually was going to release this two days ago but, I got busy with my university activities and coursework so… Yeah… Whatever.
